Path Built on Passion: From Aircraft Technician to Airline Pilot
Not all pilots start their journey in the cockpit; some begin on the ground, turning wrenches and checking instruments. This is the story of someone who started as an aircraft technician and, through years of dedication and sacrifice, eventually took flight as a commercial airline pilot.
Before flying passengers across the skies as a First Officer at Cebu Pacific, Enrico began his aviation career on the ground.
After finishing college as an Avionics Technician, he joined Aviation Partnership Philippines (Aplus) through their Cadet Training Program.
Working around airplanes and pilots every day kept his dream alive, reminding him that one day, he would be in the cockpit too.
But the road wasn’t easy. Flight training took Enrico five years to complete, a journey filled with financial challenges, sleepless nights,
and countless sacrifices. Working the night shift at Aplus, he would attend ground school during the day, often surviving on short naps between
classes. On his rest days, he’d train at Airworks Aviation Academy or take extra duties to support his studies.
It was hard, but not impossible,” Enrico shared. “I couldn’t have done it without my family, my Aplus colleagues, and the people at Airworks who supported me all the way.”
His background in maintenance gave him a strong foundation as a pilot. “In avionics, you always follow manuals and procedures. In flying, it’s the same, everything is done by the book and with teamwork. Both are about safety and discipline,” he explained.
Through the Trainee First Officer (TFO) Program of Airworks Aviation Academy and Cebu Pacific Air, Enrico finally got the opportunity to make his long-time dream a reality, joining Cebu Pacific as a First Officer. The program provided a direct pathway for qualified Airworks graduates to transition from flight training to airline operations, bridging the gap between student and professional pilot.
There were moments when he felt like giving up, but he always remembered why he started. “When I think about how far I’ve come, I tell myself, ‘Malayo pa, pero malayo na.’ My family’s support and prayers kept me going. This dream wasn’t just mine, it was ours.”
Now flying the skies with Cebu Pacific, Enrico hopes his story inspires others who are still working toward their goals.
His message is simple but powerful:
“Never give up. It may be difficult and expensive, but it’s not impossible. Stay humble, work hard, pray, and keep going, your time will come.”
