Soaring Beyond Limits - Wing Kei Chan's Story of Strength and Dreams

As we celebrate International Women’s Month, we recognize the fearless women who continue to break barriers and redefine the aviation industry. One such inspiring figure is Wing Kei Chan, a dedicated cabin crew member from Hong Kong who is training to become a commercial pilot at Airworks Aviation Academy in the Philippines.

Wing Kei has worked in the airline industry for over a decade, witnessing the magic of flight from the cabin. But she longed for more. Inspired by breathtaking views from the sky and a deep desire to challenge herself, she made the bold decision to transition from a cabin crew member to a future pilot.

“The journey to becoming a pilot is truly demanding, but it has taught me the importance of perseverance and continuous improvement,” She shares. “I wanted to prove to myself and others that with hard work and dedication, we can overcome any obstacle.”

Wing Kei chose to pursue her flight training in the Philippines due to its reputable aviation schools and accessibility from Hong Kong. Airworks Aviation Academy, highly recommended by her husband—a Hong Kong-based airline captain—stood out for its professionalism and strong support system. Since beginning her training, she has been deeply impressed by the dedication of her instructors and the academy’s commitment to nurturing future aviators.

The road to becoming a pilot hasn’t been easy. As a woman in aviation, she has encountered challenges, from breaking stereotypes to proving her capabilities. However, her years of leadership as a Senior Purser gave her the resilience and skills needed to navigate the demanding world of flight training. She credits her success to staying focused and drawing strength from the belief that she, like many women before her, has the power to inspire change.

Balancing her career as a cabin crew member while pursuing pilot training requires immense dedication. By strategically managing her schedule, utilizing leaves, and even setting up a flight simulator at home, she ensures her dream stays within reach. “It’s challenging, but passion and commitment keep me motivated,” she says.

To young women aspiring to break barriers in aviation, Wing Kei offers a powerful message: “Believe in yourself and your abilities. Having worked in the airline industry for years, I can confidently say that most pilots, whether Captains or First Officers, are incredibly friendly and supportive of our work. The barriers we imagine are often much larger in our minds than they are in reality. The aviation industry is filled with professionals who value dedication and hard work above all else. Good pilots and Captains will support you as long as you put in the effort—your gender has nothing to do with it. The key is to stay focused, work hard, and never let self-doubt hold you back. Remember, the sky is not the limit—it’s just the beginning. With determination and passion, you can achieve your dreams and inspire others to do the same. Embrace the journey, and know that you have the strength to overcome any challenge that comes your way.”

Her story is a testament to the limitless potential of women in aviation, proving that with hard work and perseverance, anything is possible. This International Women’s Month, we celebrate trailblazers like Wing Kei Chan, who remind us that the sky is open for all who dare to dream.
